The NHL’s sales of hockey equipment have reached new all time highs, with sales in the season opener on Friday up nearly 30 percent over the prior year.
Sales of NHL-licensed hockey equipment hit a record $1.7 billion in January.
The league reported Friday that sales in December and January rose slightly to $1 billion and $1,000 million, respectively.
It said the increase was driven in part by the launch of the NHL’s NHL 15 digital video game, which is available for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
The NHL said Thursday that the NHL 15 launch was a key catalyst for its success.
The latest NHL 15 game is the first of a series of digital-only video games that will be released starting in 2021.
